Running pace calculator — calculate pace, time and distance
Our free running pace calculator lets you work out the missing value from three variables in a matter of seconds: distance, time and pace. Enter any two known values and the calculator instantly computes the third — pace in minutes per kilometre (min/km) and speed in km/h. Useful for beginners taking their first steps in running as well as advanced athletes planning race strategy.
How to plan training with the pace calculator?
Click one of the distance presets — 5 km, 10 km, half marathon or marathon — to automatically fill in the distance field. Then enter your planned time or target pace and the calculator will determine the missing value. The table below shows finish times for all popular race distances at your pace — the perfect tool for setting competition goals.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate running pace?
- Running pace is the time needed to cover one kilometre. You calculate it by dividing the total running time by the distance in kilometres. For example, running 10 km in 50 minutes gives you a pace of 5:00 min/km.
- What is the difference between pace and speed?
- Pace is time per kilometre — e.g. 5:30 min/km. The lower the pace value, the faster you are running. Speed is kilometres per hour (km/h) — the higher, the faster. Both describe the same thing but in opposite directions.
- What pace do I need to run a marathon in 4 hours?
- To finish a marathon (42.195 km) in exactly 4 hours you need to maintain a pace of 5:41 min/km (approx. 10.5 km/h). Enter distance 42.195 km and time 4:00:00 — the calculator will immediately work out the required pace.
- Does the pace calculator work offline?
- Yes. All calculations are performed directly in your browser without sending any data to a server. The calculator works even in offline mode once the page has loaded.
