Frequently asked questions

How many words per minute does the average person read?
The average adult reads about 200–230 words per minute when focused. Fast readers reach 250–300 wpm, while reading aloud slows the pace to about 130 wpm. Children and beginner readers are slower β€” around 100–150 wpm.
How does the calculator count sentences?
Sentences are split on periods, exclamation marks, or question marks (including multiple consecutive punctuation marks such as "..."). Empty fragments are ignored, so the result is close to the actual sentence count, though abbreviations (e.g. "Dr.", "St.") may cause a slight overcount.
Is the text sent to a server?
No. All analysis β€” counting words, characters, sentences, and calculating time β€” happens in the browser on your device. No data is sent to any external server.
