Netto salaris calculator — calculate take-home pay in the Netherlands

Our free calculator lets you quickly work out your net salary in the Netherlands (netto salaris) based on 2024 tax rates. Enter your gross amount — monthly or annual — and the tool calculates the loonheffing and the credits (algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting). Results are shown in euros, both monthly and annually.

The calculator is designed for employees below the AOW state pension age. It does not include vakantiegeld, the 30% ruling or individual deductions — your actual net pay may differ. Always verify the result with your employer or the Belastingdienst.

How does the Dutch tax system work?

Dutch wage tax (loonheffing) is calculated using the two-bracket box 1 scale and then reduced by heffingskortingen — tax credits that significantly increase the net amount. The algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting can together amount to several thousand euros per year, which is why the effective burden is lower than the headline 36.97% rate.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Dutch tax brackets in 2024?
In 2024 (below the AOW state pension age) box 1 has two rates: 36.97% up to EUR 75,518 of annual income and 49.50% on the excess above that amount. The first rate already includes national insurance contributions (premies volksverzekeringen), which is why it is the combined rate (tarief gecombineerd).
What are the algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting?
These are the two main tax credits (heffingskortingen) subtracted directly from the tax due. The algemene heffingskorting is the general credit (max EUR 3,362 in 2024, tapering above EUR 24,813 of income). The arbeidskorting is the labour credit, which first rises with income and then declines (max approx. EUR 5,532). They make the actual net pay higher than the headline tax rate would suggest.
Does the calculator include holiday allowance (vakantiegeld)?
No. In the Netherlands an 8% holiday allowance (vakantiegeld) is typically paid on top of the annual salary (usually in May). The calculator taxes the gross amount you enter without adding vakantiegeld — if you want to include it, add it to the annual gross figure.
Does the result include all credits and deductions?
No. The calculator applies the standard brackets, algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting for people below the AOW age. It does not include the 30% ruling (expat allowance), mortgage interest deduction (hypotheekrenteaftrek), or other individual deductions. The result is approximate — the Belastingdienst assessment is binding.
