Stipendio netto calculator — calculate take-home pay in Italy

Our free calculator lets you quickly work out your net salary in Italy (stipendio netto) based on 2024 tax rates. Enter your gross amount (RAL) — monthly or annual — and the tool calculates INPS contributions, IRPEF after detrazioni, and addizionali. Results are shown in euros, monthly and annually.

The calculator is designed for salaried employees (lavoratori dipendenti). It does not include the thirteenth salary, family allowances or bonuses, and the INPS and surtax rates are simplified. Your actual net pay may differ — always verify the result on your payslip or with the Agenzia delle Entrate.

How does the Italian tax system work?

Italian income tax (IRPEF) is charged progressively on the taxable income (RAL minus INPS contributions) and then reduced by detrazioni per lavoro dipendente. Regional and municipal surtaxes (addizionali) are added on top. The effective burden for typical earnings is usually 25-35%.

Frequently asked questions

What are the IRPEF brackets in 2024?
After the 2024 reform there are three IRPEF brackets: 23% up to EUR 28,000, 35% from EUR 28,000 to 50,000, and 43% above EUR 50,000 of taxable income (imponibile). The tax is progressive — each income band is taxed at its own rate.
How much are the employee INPS contributions?
Social security contributions (contributi previdenziali INPS) for a private-sector employee are about 9.19% of the gross salary (RAL). The contribution is deducted from the IRPEF tax base, so the taxable income (imponibile) equals RAL minus contributions.
What are detrazioni and addizionali?
Detrazioni per lavoro dipendente are employment tax credits subtracted from IRPEF — highest for lower incomes, tapering to zero above EUR 50,000. Addizionali regionale and comunale are additional regional and municipal taxes, together usually about 1.5-2.5% (the calculator assumes approx. 2%; the actual rate depends on the region and municipality).
Why might the monthly net differ from my payslip?
In Italy salaries are often paid in 13 or 14 instalments (tredicesima, quattordicesima), while the calculator divides the annual net by 12 for comparability. It also does not include family allowances or bonuses. The payslip (busta paga) or the Agenzia delle Entrate assessment is binding.
