Danish Net Salary Calculator — loen efter skat 2024

This free calculator estimates your net salary in Denmark (loen efter skat) for 2024. Enter a gross amount (monthly or annual), your municipal tax rate (kommuneskat), and an optional church tax (kirkeskat) — the calculator deducts AM-bidrag (8%), bundskat (12.01%), kommuneskat, kirkeskat, and topskat where applicable, then shows your monthly and annual net pay.

The calculator uses simplifications typical for quick estimates: no beskaftigelsesfradrag (employment allowance up to 45,600 DKK), no skatteloft (~52.07%) and no other individual deductions. The result is therefore slightly overstated — treat it as a lower bound on your actual net pay. For binding figures use Skat.dk or consult your employer.

How is Danish income tax calculated?

The Danish tax system follows a straightforward structure: (1) AM-bidrag (8%) is deducted from gross pay, (2) personfradrag (49,700 DKK/year in 2024) is subtracted from income after AM to give the taxable base, (3) bundskat (12.01%), kommuneskat (22-27%) and kirkeskat (0-~1%) apply to the taxable base, (4) topskat (15%) applies to income after AM exceeding 588,900 DKK. The effective rate for an average salary (~45,000 DKK/month) is typically 35-40%.

Frequently asked questions

What is AM-bidrag and who pays it?
AM-bidrag (arbejdsmarkedsbidrag, labour market contribution) is a mandatory contribution of 8% of gross pay. Almost every employee and self-employed person in Denmark pays it. It is deducted first — from the full gross salary, before income tax is calculated.
What is kommuneskat and does it vary by municipality?
Kommuneskat is the municipal income tax, which in 2024 ranges from around 22% to 27% depending on the municipality. The calculator uses 25.0% as a representative default. You can check the exact rate for your municipality on Skat.dk.
When does topskat apply?
Topskat (15%) applies to the portion of income after AM-bidrag that exceeds 588,900 DKK per year (2024). At a monthly gross below roughly 55,000 DKK, topskat typically does not apply.
Does the result include beskaftigelsesfradrag?
No. Beskaftigelsesfradrag (employment allowance, up to 45,600 DKK/year in 2024) is NOT included in this calculator. In practice this allowance reduces the taxable base, so your actual net pay will be somewhat higher than shown. Treat the result as a conservative estimate.
What is skatteloft and why is it not implemented?
Skatteloft is the cap on combined income taxation (bundskat + kommuneskat + kirkeskat), set at around 52.07% in 2024. For average earners this cap is rarely reached, so it has been omitted from this simplified calculator. If your combined rate approaches the ceiling, your actual tax will be lower than shown.
Does this calculator replace tax advice?
No. The calculator is for orientation only. The binding settlement comes from your employer or from Skat.dk, where you can also access individual tax services. If in doubt, consult a qualified Danish tax adviser (revisor).
