Fraction converter — decimals and percentages without mental arithmetic

Our free fraction converter lets you instantly convert a common fraction to a decimal and a percentage — or the other way around. Results appear live, no button to click. The calculator automatically reduces the fraction to its simplest form (by dividing the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor), and when the numerator is greater than the denominator it also shows the mixed-number form. Handy in maths lessons, cooking recipes, and anywhere you need to quickly compare fractions with percentages.

Three modes: fraction, decimal, and percent

The tool works in three modes, switchable with a single click. Fraction → decimal takes a numerator and denominator and returns the result as a decimal, a percentage, and a reduced fraction. Decimal → fraction converts any decimal (e.g. 0.333) to a fraction — the calculator approximates it via a power of ten and then reduces the result. Percent → fraction does the reverse: from a percentage value it computes the decimal and the common fraction.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a common fraction to a decimal?
Enter the numerator and denominator in the `Fraction -> decimal` tab. The result appears automatically as a decimal number, a percentage, and the fraction reduced to its simplest form (using GCD).
How do I convert a decimal to a fraction?
Go to the `Decimal -> fraction` tab and enter a number, e.g. 0.75. The calculator converts it to a common fraction and reduces it automatically — e.g. 3/4.
What is a mixed number and when does it appear?
A mixed number consists of a whole number and a proper fraction, e.g. 1 and 1/3. It appears when the numerator is greater than the denominator (improper fraction) — the calculator shows it as a supplementary result.
Does the calculator support percentages?
Yes. In the `Percent -> fraction` tab, enter a percentage value (e.g. 37.5) and the tool converts it to a decimal and a reduced common fraction.
