What is a CVR number?

CVR (Centrale Virksomhedsregister) is a Danish 8-digit company identification number issued by the Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen). Every company registered in Denmark has a unique CVR number that is publicly available in the CVR.dk registry.

How does the MOD-11 algorithm work for CVR numbers?

The validator multiplies the first 7 digits by weights [2, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2], sums the products, and calculates the remainder when divided by 11. The check digit is 11 minus that remainder. If the result is 11, the check digit equals 0. If the result is 10, the CVR number is mathematically impossible. The last (8th) digit must match the computed check digit.

Does CVR validation confirm that the company exists?

No. MOD-11 validation only verifies the mathematical correctness of the check digit. Even if a number passes validation, it does not mean the company is active or that the number is actually registered. To check a company's status, use the public CVR.dk registry.

Where can I find public information about a Danish company?
